Re: Your recent silver buys
Unfortunately for me, I watched Mythbusters the other day so I no longer have any of my PMs. I saw the episode where they made a boat out of duct tape. I made one myself and my PMs were feeling lonely so I decided to take them on a trip. We got half-way out on the lake and MYTH BUSTED... the boat came apart. Now I have to start over again building my stack... Anybody selling for cheap?

http://www.steinbergs.com/GreekCallatisi58.jpg These are "on the way" - kinda my ANCIENT side. I sure wish they were MS grade ;>) The Gaul one was made in City of Ameins (now) around 58 B.C. when the KING kow-towed to Julius Caeser in the Galic Wars. Gaul is FRANCE and I collect OLD French gold coins. The Greek PONTOS one was a fellow that paid off the romans some 600,000 of these for killing some 60,000 Romans around Thrace in 86 B.C. The guy was said by Senator Cisero "To be our greatest ememy since Alexander the Great." Funny how PONTOS is in north TURKEY today around the Black Sea - not far from Noah's Arc Mountains of Ararat - and not far from where Mohammad started to be the first terrorist. :504::504::thumb.aspx: |

I like taking pictures of shiny objects underwater. I had things all positioned, and this shark came along scared the SHIT out of me, I lost my grip. 500 shiny silver pieces slid off the camera platform. I did my best to catch them but felt like I should keep an eye on the shark. I must admit, it was a beautiful sight, watching 470 Eagles drift into the deep. My eyes were stinging from the salt water, not of the ocean (my mask has a very good seal), but from my tears. It was only 50 yards from shore, in La Jolla, near Scripps Pier. About a quarter mile north. The water there is about 500 feet deep and I just can't dive that deep. Yet. Out of my reach. Out of the tax man's reach. But if you can dive that deep, and don't mind the occasional shark patrol, they're cheap. Cheap if you're a seal, I guess. Maybe I could train a seal to get them for me ? :shine: |

That's amazing, a 2000+ year old coin in AU condition! Congrats. |
Re: Your recent silver buys
Scored a silver maple with the dual date 1999/2000 fireworks privy mark for 20$. Off topic, but I also grabbed this 20$ national currency note for my currency collection.

Re: Your recent silver buys
One of my recent '70's SAB buys was a 1-oz 1976 Hamilton Mint "Concorde SST" silver art bar.
Here is what it looks like: http://goldismoney.info/forums/showp...&postcount=215 |
Re: Your recent silver buys
i couple pieces of 90% junk to use up a Ebucks rebate
|
Re: Your recent silver buys
One 10oz. US Assay Office bar.
|
Re: Your recent silver buys
I was using my 10 oz bars as sinkers. They work great for deep sea fishing. Damn line broke. I also tried using my 5 oz monarch bar that I recently purchased, but I must not have secured it to the line.

Re: Your recent silver buys
could be some 1 oz hereaus bars coming my way shortly.
|
Re: Your recent silver buys
I got 16ozzes of generic rounds/bars for $250 last week but with the bad weather we've been having I almost slid into the lake. Fortunately all I had to eject from the car to save us all was the silver. It might have been tragic but it turned out to be just unfortunate.

My recent purchases have been 90% on ebay. All purchases at or near spot silver. A roll of mercs and roos, and some washington quarters. I see why 90% is addicting! |
Re: Your recent silver buys
Not much here, a 10 oz Sunshine bar 3 weeks ago and a 5 oz Monarch flat bar yesterday. I think I'm done with the Monarch bars, they are just too crude looking. I wonder how much of a hit below spot that I will take on resale. Of course, there's always eBay...

Re: Your recent silver buys
I grabbed a few silver maples and 80s onzas out of the junk bin recently. Nothing too exciting but when I get back from vacation in 2 weeks I'll start stacking some bigger bars.

Re: Your recent silver buys
I just bought 2 things:
- a Johnson Matthey 1 gram .999 silver ingot. Overpaid at $7.50 US, but I like the fractionals and had nothing like this. - a 1977 Panama 20 balboa proof coin for $65.65 US. It has 3.85 oz of silver in it. Always liked the coin when I saw it online, but never thought I'd find one. :coolbeer: |
Re: Your recent silver buys
today i got 30oz of junk silver rounds for 49 cent over spot
|
Re: Your recent silver buys
I purchased a monster box of 2010 Eagles on Dec 29th for 19.68 and Oz all in. Did not want to crack open the box (which should be coming tomorrow) so I purchased 1 mint tube on Jan 24th for 19.64 an oz all in.
Had I purchased these today, I would have paid 740 bucks less. Oh well... |
Re: Your recent silver buys
I went into my local dealer on Tuesday and bought five 10 ounce Wall Street Mint bars and six one ounce bars from the 1970's. I paid for them and left without taking them with me. I turned around and went back in and when I asked him for my silver he told me he had never seen me before. Rats, I hate it when I do that. :thumb.aspx:

my guess is, there were a few people who knew today about the dip to $16 - before it happened. for those of us on the outside, it was hard to predict anything lower than $16.20. |

Spot was at 17.19 when I pulled the trigger in December, but the premium was 2.49 per coin. So 50 cents of my loss was due to APMEX lowering the premium to 1.99 per coin. I guess this is another reason not to cut the bands on the box - that reduces the Tulving buy back price by 50 cents. Not that I am looking to flip these coins, but the band stays, at least until AG is safely above 25 bucks on Oz. Or, if I see stories about error coins, then the band comes off and I inspect each coin. I figured if there was going to be a mint error, it would be on the first batch manufactured, which is why pre-ordered back in December. The only thing I can do now is purchase a bunch more to lower my average cost. |
Re: Your recent silver buys
been getting some bulk silver dollars in grab bags. fun to sort through and cheap stacking. Apmex office is closed today due to weather. hope everyone is enjoying time at home w/loved ones and things don't get worse. my concern is tension far across the other side of the globe till someone gets back home. :bawling:

Re: Your recent silver buys
Jumped too early this morning, before heading out the door. Figured trend changed in London, so would be magnified in NY . Oh well, could have saved $61, but been wanting these for awhile for the personal stack. One Kook and a bunch of tigers in 2oz,5oz,10oz.
